The name aquamarine is derived from the Latin words: aqua, meaning “water,” and marina, meaning “of the sea.”
March's gemstone is Aquamarine. It is the birthstone for Pisces and is the official gemstone for the 19th wedding anniversary. The aquamarine derives from the mineral beryl, like emeralds. Its colour varies from pale blue or turquoise to deep blue, depending on the amount of iron present in the crystal.
This beautiful pale blue green aquamarine stone is said by ancient lore to be the treasure of the mermaids. According to legend it was a lucky stone for sailors, mermaids would protect those who carried the stone on their travels by sea.
